A History of Tibetan Incense
During the time of
the Buddha, over 2500 years ago, recipes and formulas were developed using 20
to 30 different substances specially combined to produce the different
fragrances that we now offer. Herbs, minerals, flowers, etc. were used in this
process. These recipes were then taken, along with the teachings of the Buddha,
to Tibet. With the invasion of India by the Moslems and the destruction of the
monasteries there, the recipes would have been lost but were fortunately
preserved by monks in the Tibetan monasteries. When the Tibetans left Tibet with
the Chinese Communist take over in 1959, they brought
back with them to India the recipes which had been lost.
Today this fine incense is made, once again, in India by Tibetan Refugees.
